About This Photo

Horsethief Lake is the closest body of water to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It’s actually an artificial lake that was created in the 1930’s when the Civilian Conservation Corps built a dam on Pine Creek. I got there early and found this wonderful composition with this little tree on the rock with the roadway stretching behind it. Then the sky lit up in hues of purple and magenta.
