Artist's Statement
There’s nothing like waking up in the predawn darkness on a new adventure to photograph a magnificent sunrise. Or scout a new location with an inherent beauty that few have witnessed. Seeking out, recording and sharing my vision of the natural world is what drives me to get up and plant my tripod as often as possible. I savor the isolation, solitude and loneliness of being the only person at a location and being able to experience that unique moment — to capture that rare occurrence — where lighting conditions, composition, and environmental factors all come together to produce an exclusive view of a particular landscape. We live in an age where everyone is connected and the pace of life is fast. I like to slow down and create images that viewers find calming and intriguing.
I grew up in Green Bay, Wisconsin where I enjoyed camping in Door County, family excursions to Wisconsin Dells, and weekend getaways to the north woods of central Wisconsin. I moved to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 2002, and discovered the beauty of Minnesota’s scenic North Shore and it’s varied topography. I also discovered a passion for landscape photography. Since then, I’ve been on a quest to revisit and capture the wonderful scenes and coastlines that Wisconsin and Minnesota have to offer. My ultimate goal is to share unique compositions of the area’s most beloved locales that will awaken a sense of awe and wonder in the viewer.
